Scott Tanner, a fisherman from Nova Scotia, couldn't believe his eyes when he went fishing in Newfoundland and pulled up a mysterious creature which looks like it came out from ancient biology books.
The mysterious creature resembles a fish, but has long birdlike beak and shiny green eyes. It was caught in the fishing trawler off the coast of Newfoundland.
The other fishermen are all shocked by the unusual sight, but Tanner isn't convinced that the mysterious creature is a monster, saying that it bears resemblance to the deep-sea fish called long-nosed chimaera.
There is a possibility that Tanner is right, and the creature is indeed a chimaera. But catching a chimaera is not something to sneer about. These creatures can only be found between 660 and 6,560 feet below the surface.
The chimaera most likely died before it was pulled up to the surface by a net meant for catching cod, due to the pressure change. Although the questions surrounding the mysterious creature have mostly been answered, remember that 95% of the ocean is still unexplored. The sea monsters that the Vikings have warned us about are still there, waiting to be discovered.
