The painting is titled Mr. Pynchon and the Settling of Springfield and it was drawn by Umberto Romano, an impressionist painter and muralist. The painting shows Mr. Pynchon with a company of Amerindians in the place that would later be named Springfield, Massachusetts. At first glance, there seems to be nothing strange on the painting but a small but peculiar detail is anachronistic for a 1937 painting.
