The Philippine Navy is under extensive modernization efforts in the past years. These modernization efforts include the procurement of patrol vehicles and even frigates or corvettes. Recently, a ship from the South Korean Navy was sold to the Philippine Navy for only $100. The price is relatively small compared to other ships that cost millions of dollars.

It turned out that the prize of the Pohang class corvette is merely symbolic or ceremonial in nature. In fact, the ship was donated for free. The price is only for the niceties, Popular Mechanics reports. Despite the fact that the corvette was turned over for only $100, it's state of the art weapon system from US Navy was removed.

The ship was decommissioned by the Republic Korean Navy last year. The name of the ship is formerly ROK Chungju, and up to this day, the name BRP designation of the Philippine Navy is yet to be known. The ship is expected to aid the Armed Forces Of The Philippines in maritime patrols and counter insurgency.
