An American woman named Jennifer Lovdhal shared a photo of a then 6 year old Happy Meal from McDonald's. The post garnered more than 500,000 shares since it was posted last year. Jennifer writes that she let it display at her work place and she constantly check it once in a while. She then claimed that it reeks off a cardboard like odor. She also suggested to eat natural foods such as fruits and vegetables because these foods are the real fast food
She writes in her Facebook post:
It's been 6 years since I bought this "Happy Meal" at McDonald's. It's been sitting at our office this whole time and has not rotted, molded, or decomposed at all!!! It smells only of cardboard. We did this experiment to show our patients how unhealthy this "food" is. Especially for our growing children!! There are so many chemicals in this food! Choose real food! Apples, bananas, carrots, celery....those are real fast food.

Most of us grew up eating at fast food chains. In the past years we have seen articles and photos that show year old McDonald burgers that still looks edible! Despite the fact that the food could've spoiled in the span of hours. These photos made us think twice of eating at fast food chains because of the fear of contracting diseases.

Last year, the story of the 6 year old Nuggets and Fries attracted the mainstream media. FoxNews and other news outlets covered the story. Because of the coverage, McDonalds also offered their explanation regarding the reason why the Happy Meal stayed intact for 6 years.

McDonald's USA offered this explanation:
In the right environment, our burgers, fries and other menu items could decompose. The reason our food may appear not to decompose comes down to a matter of simple science. In order for decomposition to occur, you need certain conditions – specifically moisture. Without sufficient moisture – either in the food itself or the environment – bacteria and mold may not grow and therefore, decomposition is unlikely. So if food is or becomes dry enough, it is unlikely to grow mold or bacteria or decompose.
