Land Of The Strays in Costa Rica Is Almost Like The Promised Land For Dogs

Land Of The Strays in Costa Rica Is Almost Like The Promised Land For Dogs

A place that resembles a paradise for dogs exists in the land of Costa Rica. Territorio de Zaguates, or "Land of the Strays" is a privately funded, volunteer-run, no-kill, animal shelter that takes care of more than 900 breeds of dogs. Each breed is uniquely named to match the dog's special characteristics — for example, "Chubby-Tailed German Dobernauzer", "Fire-Tailed Border Cocker", and "Alaskan Collie Fluffyterrier."

Every dog in this one-of-a-kind shelter is available for adoption. Territorio de Zaguates aspires to celebrate all kinds of mix-breed dogs and to dispel the notion that purebreds are more valuable. They believe that by giving positive twists to these special dogs, will help in finding their furr-ever homes. Territorio de Zaguates's advertising campaign bears the message "When you adopt a mutt, you adopt a unique breed."

The shelter had been featured in a popular Costa Rican television show which gathered an overwhelming public response. The Alaskan Collie Fluffyterrier even became a social media sensation!

The number of potential adopters increased greatly, and many of the prospective pawrents visited the Land of the Strays where they will be able to meet the dogs in person.

Volunteers regularly take the dogs for walks around the scenic grounds of the shelter. Visitors are invited to participate and have the time to interact with the dogs. This will be a great opportunity for the adopters to bond and get acquainted with their prospective new pets.

The dogs in Territorio de Zaguates spend most of their time enjoying the warmth of the sun and feeling the cool breeze of nature. They also have access to a modern indoor facility which features cozy bedding, with feeding and bathing stations.

All the dogs are extremely well cared for and happy. If you're planning to visit this doggy wonderland, be sure to check their Facebook page for upcoming public hikes plus tons of photos of these adoptable cuties.
