What You Need To Know About These White Spots

What You Need To Know About These White Spots

Do you really know what causes the white spots on the nails and what they stand for? If you don't then you should continue reading below. First, you ought to know that most of the white spots on your nails are formed because of air bubbles under the nails. These spots are called leukonychia and they are usually caused by minor injuries at the base of the nail. You should also know that these white spots can be inherited, but in some cases, they may imply medical problems.

If you see these white spots appearing on your nails, then you should probably see a doctor as soon as possible. The white spots may indicate warts and fungus (onychomycosis), or psoriasis and eczema, both which can affect the nails as well.

These tiny white spots on the nails can also be symptom of sarcoidosis, a disease which affects the skin, lungs, and other organs of the body.

On the other hand, a nail which is always soft and has white spots could be a condition called Plummer nail. This means that you might have some problems with your thyroid gland, or hypothyroidism. A lower line on the nail means the disease was discovered early.

If you see two white horizontal lines across the surface of the nail, you should see a doctor immediately. This could be an indication of cardiac arrest, Hodgkin’s disease, malaria, or even leprosy.

And if you see two white horizontal narrow stripes on one or more nails, it can be a sign of hypoalbuminemia, a condition on which the albumin protein is low in blood. This disorder, and those lines may also cause several acute and chronic medical conditions, such as, inter alia, kidney disease, liver cirrhosis, heart failure and irregular diet. Although in most cases, those lines are just the inflammatory response of the body to infection or injury.

To be safe, if you notice any of the signs mentioned above, you should see a doctor. They may indicate that something is wrong with your body.
